The Life and Times of Noodles

Tuesday July 25th… wow…I never know what day it is anymore. I am currently at the American Village Tours de Buis camp site and it is my day off…but since it is so frickin hot here I really can’t do very much. The end of our second session is nearing and I’m very excited to have a few days in a row off. I probably won’t do much but it will be nice not to have to deal with 60 screaming kids for a few days.

Each session is 2 weeks long and each day is themed around some American type holiday like Thanksgiving or Valentine’s Day. The kids learn about the theme days in ESL class and we do goofy skits and programs, all of of which is in English so many of them have no idea what’s going on. But by the end of the session you’d be surprised how much they actually catch onto. It’s a lot of fun and a whoooole lot of work. But I must say, definitely better than sitting behind a desk all day.

The first session’s kids were great! We give them American names when they come to camp; so we had a Superman, Homer and a Billy Joel last session. This session we have Super Girl a Spiderman and Megatron. It’s pretty interesting to yell at a kid, “Spiderman, stop picking your nose!!”

The counselors also get new names. I was having the hardest time trying to come up with one. First there was Mojo after my stuffed monkey but I figured there were too many other references and no one would understand; then there was Homer, but we already have a counselor named Domer; so everyone said they were too similar. So one day Aphex (Emma) said that I should be called Noodles. So, that is now my new name. I hadn’t heard my real name in ages, so when Marc and Shanta referred to me as Maya on Bastille Day I didn’t know what to do with myself...hehe :-)

One more month and then it’s off to Paris for me…I’m currently deciding on whether or not to visit a friend in Scotland for a few days before settling into Paris and I still really wanna go to Oktoberfest for those of you who still wanna come; so let me know.

Alrightie, I’m off to enjoy the rest of my day off. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Dear Noodles,

Nice to see you checking back in. The pictures from the camp where you trained are gorgeous!

It sounds like you're having a grand time. Tell those kids in your class not to believe everything you say, though, OK?
